March 16, 2017 (BIRMINGHAM, AL)—The Visions Beauty Distributors held their 6th Annual Natural Hair & Health Expo (NHHE) on March 11th at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center as a celebratory event highlighting beauty as demonstrated among women of color. Natural hair and health enthusiasts travelled from afar to attend Birmingham’s largest natural hair expo for a full day of engaging beauty and entertainment, enlightening workshops, shopping the vendor marketplace and access to celebrity fashionistas including cycle 3 winner of America’s Next Top Model, Eva Marcille; FashionBombDaily.com’s Claire Sulmers; WEtv’s Goo Goo Atkins from the hit reality-TV show Mary Mary; plus, many more.

The NHHE Live Blogger Panel featured style influencers Claire Sulmers of FashionBombDaily.com and Tami Reed of Talking with Tami. Renown natural hairstylist Deshonica Kerrie hosted the panel, in which the two fashionistas expressed their opinions on topics in the health, hair and fashion realms. The pair touched on topics such as: cultural appropriation in fashion, technology’s prominent role in modern dating, and how representation matters in how we see beauty. The panel concluded with a Q&A for attendees to ask their own questions in exchange for advice.

The NHHE Fashion Show hosted by celebrity wardrobe stylist Goo Goo Atkin’s from WEtv’s Mary Mary, exhibited a variety of flattering haute-couture styles for women of all body types provided by Birmingham’s own ISHI? Boutique. Hoots and hoorays regularly escaped the crowd throughout the show as the showstopping looks stole the attention of the entire expo.

Tahira Joy, co-founder of online platform The Cut Life, which convenes more than 1.2 million hair enthusiasts around the topic and celebration of haircuts, hosted the dynamic NHHE Cut Party. Local Alabama-based hairstylists from the Visions Style Team showcased the latest natural hairstyle trends in this upbeat and fast-paced hair cutting experience.

Third cycle winner of America’s Next Top Model, Eva Marcille, came to the expo as a celebrity guest judge for NHHE’s 2nd Annual Miss Natural Hair & Health Pageant, while also presenting a workshop for NHHE University (NHHE-U) on “How to WERK the Fashion, Beauty & Entertainment Industry Like a TOP Model.” Presented by SHEEN Magazine, NHHE-U offered attendees a full day of empowerment workshops, including those led by speakers Claire Sulmers, La’Metrius Miller, Karen Stallings, and Eyvon Austin from Coca Cola.

The expo then closed out with the empowering 2nd Annual Mss Natural Hair and Health Expo Pageant, which spotlights pride in natural hair and the mélange of beauty and brains as demonstrated by women of color from all backgrounds. After pageant judges scored the nine phenomenal finalists on their values, mannerisms, gowns and ambitions their tallies proposed Tuscaloosa mom of 2, Adrian “Maria” Latham as the Miss Natural Hair and Health Beauty Expo 2017. First runner-up was Kheri Lusian and second runner-up was Quinchela Dent-Hess.
